We talk so much of Zion Canyon and her hikes and splendid slot canyons, and that’s because Zion has some of the best slot canyons in the world (we might be slightly biased). But just down the road from us there lies the unbelievable Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and specifically Neon Canyon and the Golden Cathedral. So for today I wanted to highlight the stunning beauty and absolute pleasure it is to hike and canyoneer down Neon Canyon in Escalante.
Some people get confused about the difference between Neon Canyon and the Golden Cathedral, the canyon you descend to get to the Golden Cathedral is called Neon. And the cathedral itself is the last rappel through that whole in the rock alcove. In this video you’ll see these guys descending through Neon, before finally rappelling down through the cathedral.

I’ve done this hike and I have to admit it was one of the best experiences of my life. It’s hard even after watching this video to fully appreciate how beautiful the Golden Cathedral is, without hanging over it with a rope. Without looking up through it in awe at how it could have been formed. But, this video will get you as close to experiencing it as you can get.
